Conquer Your Cravings Day 1

Decoding Your Cravings

Today is all about learning more about yourself and what it is you really crave when you experience a craving.

Once you understand WHY you experience cravings, and what your body is trying to tell you through the cravings message, it makes it so much easier to manage them.

It’s important on this very first day of the challenge to also emphasise that cravings are not always a bad thing- but they are always a signal of something- either physical or emotional- that your always wise body needs.

Ignite Your Passion & Purpose

Today we are talking all about igniting your passions. When we do things that light us up and our soul is literally on-fire with joy, we are going to be so happy and feel so good about ourselves that we will only treat ourselves with loving kindness.

Too often we go through our days feeling uninspired, blocked or stuck in place and we operate from a place of emptiness rather than fulfillment.

You may be feeling a bit lost, and unsure of what your passions and purpose are. Even if you know what lights you up, when was the last time you did these things? This is where today’s challenge is so powerful.

Practice Self-Care

You might be wondering what the heck Self-Care has to do with cravings, and I’m here to tell you that it’s everything to do with conquering your cravings. When you get enough sleep and rest and when you nourish your body by eating well and when you move your body in gentle and loving ways and take time out for you, then this is all Self-Care.

And when you do these things consistently, it helps your body to function in a positive and happy way and the likelihood of cravings coming to taunt you are hugely minimised. Happiness and balance in our lives is integral to overall health. Food is, in fact, a secondary source of nourishment.

Rest & Relaxation

If we go through our days constantly tired or always stressed, there is a cascade of problems that usually results. One of these is related to the stress hormone cortisol, which packs a triple whammy of badness.

Cortisol affects metabolism, blood sugar levels, interferes with insulin secretion, increases fat storage – especially around the mid-section. Cortisol also promotes cravings for fatty, salty and sugary foods because your body is looking for a quick fix of energy that these foods will provide.

Plus, if you are stressed, you can’t relax and get the rest you need, which further spikes cortisol production – creating a vicious cycle.

Because I know that getting enough sleep, minimising stress and looking after your Self-Care are often the last things that gets looked after in our busy lives, today’s challenge addresses this.

Relationships Detox

The Soul Food of Relationships does not only refer to those of a romantic nature. It can include everyone who we spend time with in our lives- parents, siblings, friends and colleagues.

The motivational speaker Jim Rohn famously said that we are the average of the five people we spend the most time with. And success experts say that over the course of our lives we spend most of our time with just 5 people!

When it comes to relationships, we are greatly influenced — whether we like it or not — by those closest to us. It affects our way of thinking, our self-esteem, and our decisions. Some relationships uplift and inspire us and others are downright draining. We will be taking a lose-up look at all these relationships in our lives in today’s challenge.

Move Your Body

Of course we all know that moving our bodies is good for us. Exercise helps us to build muscles, get stronger and help us to tone our body and assist with weight loss. Did you also know that it is scientifically proven that being active makes us smarter, happier and more successful as well as strengthening the immune system?

Exercise helps to relieve symptoms of both depression and anxiety if the exercise is intense and done regularly. Moving our body helps to creates better sleeping habits and enhances self esteem. Can you see why getting your body moving is essential when it comes to conquering your cravings?

Practice Gratitude

An attitude of gratitude means to be thankful for what you have and to let go of the desire for things you do not. Your physical health and well-being are always secondary to your psychological health. A healthy attitude of gratitude is a crucial component for psychological well-being. However, it tends to be overlooked and minimised in our busy lives.

Gratitude reduces negative emotions like anger, envy, depression, anxiety, and stress. These negative emotions effectively destroy positive competencies and capabilities and can have long-term effects on physical activity and health.

Gratitude, on the other hand, reinforces positive emotions like pleasure, joy, excitement, happiness, and prestige. So therefore you can no doubt start to see how having an attitude of gratitude can certainly help with conquering your emotional cravings, right?
